LOS ANGELES — Stormy Dans must pay almost $122,000 in legal fees to Donald Trump for his failed defamation suit, an appeals court ruled Tuesday.

The California decision came at the same time as Trump was charged with a crime. Trump pleaded not guilty to a 34-count felony accusation against him. The indictment alleges that he falsified business records in a scheme designed to hide allegations of extramarital affairs with Daniels, Playboy model Karen McDougal, and was filed in New York City.

Daniels, whose real identity is Stephane Clifford claims she had an affair in 2006 with Trump and was paid $130,000 as part a nondisclosure contract days before the 2016 election.

After he dismissed her claims that he threatened her to keep quiet about the tryst, she sued him for defamation. The case was dismissed by a judge in 2018.

Tuesday saw the appointment of a commissioner to the Ninth U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruled Trump’s lawyers “reasonably spent more than 183 hours” on appeal of the case, but denied a request to add $5,150 in fees because it was not itemized.

Daniels was ordered to pay more that $600,000 in Trump’s legal fees. Harmeet Dillon, one his attorneys, tweeted the news.

This includes $300,000 in attorney fees that Daniels was previously ordered to pay.

Daniels declared, “I will go into jail before I pay one penny.”

After hours Tuesday, messages requesting comment from Clark Brewster, an Oklahoma lawyer, were not immediately returned.
