Lindsey Graham Rejects Trump’s Demand for Emotional TV Defense

Former President Donald Trump demanded that Congress cut funding for the Justice Department, FBI, and other agencies. GOP Senator Lindsey Graham does not support the withdrawal of money from these agencies. Graham, a staunch Trump ally recently appeared on Sean Hannity’s Fox News to plead for donations to Trump’s legal defense. On Wednesday, former President Donald Trump urged GOP members to cut funding for U.S. Justice Departments and FBI. But South Carolina Senator Lindsey Graham stated that he does not support such a move.

Graham stated that he understood his frustration but that defunding police is not the right solution during a news conference according to The State newspaper.

Graham is a Trump supporter and was featured on Sean Hannity’s Fox News last week. He made an emotional appeal to people to donate money for Trump’s legal defense. Social media users shared clips of Hannity’s appearance, with comments suggesting that the Republican senator seemed to be in tears.

After an investigation by Alvin Bragg, Manhattan District Attorney, into an alleged hush-money payment that Trump made to Stormy Daniels, an adult film star before 2016, Graham’s interview on Hannity’s March 30 program was indicted by a grand jury. Trump pleaded guilty Tuesday to 34 felonies of falsifying business records. He also denied any affair with Daniels.

Trump called on Republican lawmakers Wednesday to cut funding for the nation’s top law enforcement agencies.

“REPUBLICANS IN CONGRESS SHOULD DEFUND FBI AND DOJ UNTIL THEY COME to THEIR SENSES.” THE DEMOCRATS ARE ACTIVELY USING THIS ABUSE of POWER TO INTERFERE with OUR ALREADY UNDER SLIEGE ELECTIONS! Trump wrote on Truth Social.

“As frustrated and disillusioned as possible [Trump] Graham stated that while the FBI has a right for its actions, terrorist lurks out there and taking your guard down for a moment could prove very dangerous for the public,” Graham said to reporters on Wednesday.

Graham’s news conference came after another appearance on Hannity on Tuesday in which he appealed to Trump supporters to donate money.

Graham stated on Fox News, “Please help President Trump.” “If you can afford five to ten dollars, fine. If you can’t afford one dollar, fine. Just pray. Vote as early as possible in your state. Don’t take any chance. Vote as soon and as often as possible. Pray for this nation, pray for the president, and if money is available, give it.

Graham addressed the public during Wednesday’s press conference.

Trump “has spent millions of money defending against every type of lawsuit on demand and all criminal investigations, and I think, from a Republican perspective, that you should take some burden off him” by donating, Graham stated, per The State.

Newsweek was told by George Ajjan, a political strategist from around the world, that Graham’s public appeals will not have any effect on Trump’s case.

Ajjan stated that “Unfortunately for Republicans the tempest in the teapot surrounding Bragg’s indictment against the former president exposes how conservative ideology continues to be a secondary consideration to Trump’s personal considerations.”

“Conservatives rightly cite the 9th & 10th Amendments to prevent big-city liberals from trying to ramming a woke agenda through the throats their children.” But the inverse also applies–Manhattanites elected their own district attorney without the input of red states.”

He said, “Lindsay Graham should wipe away his tears, and move to New York, to run against Bragg, to avenge Trump. But until then, it’s either put up or shut down.”

Newsweek reached Graham’s office via email to request comment.
