Iowa’s Kari Lake Gets Good News

Former Arizona governor candidate Kari Lake is the most popular choice among Iowa GOP voters for a vice president to Donald Trump’s 2024 White House bid. A poll in Iowa showed that she was the most popular among state GOP voters.

J.L. J.L. Partners’ poll released Thursday showed Lake was overwhelmingly preferred by potential Iowa Caucus voters, who prefer Trump to Florida Governor Ron DeSantis for the Republican presidential nomination. Although DeSantis has not yet announced his 2024 bid, polls show that he is Trump’s most formidable opponent in the GOP primaries.

Trump supporters voted for Lake as the vice presidential candidate. This is compared to the 10 percent who voted for former South Carolina Governor and U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley. Voters who wanted DeSantis to be the GOP’s nominee preferred Haley (34%), South Carolina Senator Tim Scott (15%) or former Housing Secretary Ben Carson (14%), over Lake (8%) as Trump’s running mate.

This could be a good thing for Lake, as Trump was ahead of DeSantis’ in the head-to-head matchup. Trump received 47 percent support compared to DeSantis’ 39%, while 15% of those surveyed were still undecided. Trump also appears to have more support than DeSantis. Seventy percent of Trump supporters stated that they were satisfied with their decision, while only 56 percent of DeSantis supporters stated that they might change their minds.

Lake has not yet declared any plans to run for the presidency, but political pundits speculate that Trump may pick her or Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene from Georgia as his running mate. These two women are his closest allies.

Haley and Lake were tied in the general list of potential vice presidential candidates. Each received 17 percent support. Carson received 11%, Scott received 10 percent, and Greene was 4 percent.

A spokesperson for Lake stated that “Poll after Poll after Poll proves that voters agree on a single thing: they want Kari Lake digging her heels in to continue fighting for our great Republic.”

Newsweek spoke with Colton Duncan, a spokesperson for Colton Duncan.

After being endorsed by Donald Trump in Arizona’s 2022 governor race, Lake rose to prominence in the Republican Party. Despite losing to Katie Hobbs, Democrat, by more than 17,000 votes. Lake insists that voting irregularities in Maricopa County cost Lake her the race. She is currently involved in an election lawsuit that she hopes will reverse the results. Hobbs has been governor since January.

Duncan stated that Lake is “dedicated” and will continue to fight for the election lawsuit.

Iowa is a crucial contest for Republicans as it is the first major contest of the party’s primary season. South Carolina is the first state to host the Democratic Party’s primary. Although the results of caucuses don’t always determine who will be the next president, they can provide a strong indicator of how a candidate might do later.

In recent months, Trump, DeSantis and Haley visited Iowa. Scott and former Vice President Mike Pence also visited the state. Lake made a February trip to Iowa.

Lake is a prominent figure within Arizona politics, but she was born in Donahue, Iowa and attended North Scott High School, Eldridge. During her February visit, Lake praised Iowa for having more secure elections that Arizona and promised to do “everything in my power” to make it happen. [Trump] “Elected” in 2024
