After insisting that he wouldn’t be “getting in” with Donald Trump’s possible extradition to New York, Ron DeSantis was attacked by prominent Trump supporters. He had been charged over an alleged $130,000 hush money sent to Stormy Daniels in 2016.
DeSantis responded to the rumors Monday by saying: “We’re certainly not getting involved in that in any way.”
Although he has not yet announced his candidacy, polling suggests that DeSantis could prove to be Trump’s most dangerous opponent in his bid for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination.
DeSantis spoke to reporters Monday and refused to say that he would oppose any attempt to extradite Trump. However, he did criticize Alvin Bragg, Manhattan District Attorney, for his investigation.
DeSantis stated that he had no interest in participating in a Soros DA-manufactured circus. “He’s trying to create a political spectacle I have real issues here in Florida that I’ve got.
DeSantis pointedly stated, “I don’t know what goes into paying silence to a pornstar to ensure silence over some type o alleged affair.”
Leading Trump supporters, including Steve Bannon, criticized the answers. He said, in remarks highlighted by Patriot Takes Twitter account: “Governor DeSantis, you’re better that this. It was a weak approach. Don’t forget the porn star thing. I don’t need it.
Donald Trump Jr. replied by claiming that DeSantis was “owned by billionaire donors” as well as “100 percent controlled opposition.”
He said, “I was hoping for strong responses but we got a weak response. We got weaker responses than most RINO Republicans. We received a weaker response to our petition than many Never Trump Republicans.
“I spent a lot time with DeSantis personally…guys unfortunately, one-on-one it does not exist and this week it was clear.”
Ron Filipkowski posted a clip of Trump Jr.’s comments on Twitter. He claims to monitor and report right-wing extremism.
Trump retaliated via his Truth Social website at DeSantis
He wrote: “Ron” in a post that has since been deleted. [DeSantis] He will likely find out about it when he is unfairly and illegally attacked in the future by a woman (or a man!) “With false accusations.”
Trump is under investigation for allegedly paying $130,000 to Daniels in 2016 to stop Melania from leaking his claim that he had cheated on her.
Trump posted on Truth Social Saturday that he expects to be arrested Tuesday and asked his supporters to protest.
